What is it about felt that is so fascinating?
When we talk about felt, we often think of the mass produced little squares of brightly coloured material that we used in school to create our first pieces of ‘art’.
However making felt from wool fleece has been around for thousands of years and predates spinning or weaving with wool. Felt was first discovered when wool fleeces from sheep were placed under the saddles of horses to provide protection and used to provide comfort and warmth around feet. As sweat was produced and the wool fibres were rubbed back and forth together with this moisture, the first felts were created!
Our introduction to felting came with some skepticism, but it didn’t take long to appreciate how amazing this textile can be. 
By introducing heat, friction and soap to wool fleece you can create a warm, soft, protective, breathable and fire retardant (to name but a few) fabric. You can use this felt in many different applications.
